AFL Platform Update - 10th November 2026
New Versions
This update is released in the following versions:
- AFL API v1.77
- AFL Warehouse v1.20
Match Chains - Corrected Rotated Locations
We've fixed a bug in locationRotated on the GET /v1/matches/{matchId}/chains endpoint.
locationRotated is meant to normalise a location so that a squad is always shown attacking the same direction, whichever end it's kicking to in that period. That makes chains comparable across quarters. Until now the chains endpoint flipped the sign of x, y, xStd and yStd for every chain, without checking which way the squad was kicking. Chains from periods where the squad was already attacking in the standard direction were flipped when they shouldn't have been. For example, a chain starting in the attacking midfield (AM) could show a negative rotated x, which places it in the defensive half.
From this release, locationRotated on a chain's start and end is rotated based on the squad that owns the chain:
| Situation | locationRotated returns |
|---|---|
| The chain's squad is kicking in the opposite direction to the standard in that period | location with x, y, xStd and yStd flipped |
| The chain's squad is already kicking in the standard direction in that period | The same values as location |
| The chain has no squad | The same values as location |
Rotation now works the same way as it does on the GET /v1/matches/{matchId}/transactions endpoint. The location values themselves are unchanged.
Completed matches will be reprocessed after the release so that corrected locationRotated values also apply to past matches. If you've stored chain data locally, or worked around the old values by re-deriving the orientation yourself, refresh your stored data and remove the workaround.
Sandbox - Older Replay Matches Removed
The following replay matches have been removed from the sandbox. They'll no longer be returned by the sandbox environment:
| Match Id | Competition | Season - Round | Squads |
|---|---|---|---|
| 233040944 | AFL Premiership | 2021 - 2 | Fremantle v GWS GIANTS |
| 233041024 | AFL Premiership | 2021 - 2 | Western Bulldogs v West Coast Eagles |
| 232990753 | AAMI Community Series | 2021 - 2 | Collingwood v Richmond |
| 266408098 | NAB AFL Womens | 2023 - 1 | Carlton v Gold Coast SUNS |
If your sandbox tests reference any of these match IDs, switch them to one of the remaining replay matches. Newer sandbox matches will be added in due course that better represent a wider selection of scenarios.
AFL Warehouse - New STATISTICS MATCH METRICS Table
A new table, STATISTICS.MATCH_METRICS, records which metrics were captured for each match. There's one row per match and metric. A metric only appears for a match if that match's source feed returned it.
Use it when you calculate averages across matches. It lets you average a metric only over the matches where it was tracked, rather than treating "not tracked for this match" as zero.
| Column | Details |
|---|---|
| LEAGUE_ID | League of the match |
| LEVEL_ID | Level of the match |
| SEASON_ID | Season of the match |
| MATCH_ID | The match |
| METRIC_CODE | Metric code, matching REFERENCE.GLOSSARY.METRIC_CODE |
| METRIC | Metric name, e.g. Speed of Ball Movement, Long Down the Line |
| METRIC_DESCRIPTION | Description of the metric |
| LEVEL | Whether the metric is available at Player + Squad, Squad Only or Player Only level |
| FORMAT | Display format of the raw value |
| FORMAT_AVG | Display format to apply when the metric is averaged |
| METRIC_DIMENSIONS_TRX | BOOLEAN. Whether the metric has transaction-level dimensions |
The table is loaded for completed matches and refreshed per match. The metrics you see in it follow your metric licensing, as in the other STATISTICS tables.
AFL Warehouse - MATCH Chains, Entries, Shots, Stoppages and Rotations Now Available to Clubs
The following tables are now available to club accounts:
-
MATCH.CHAINS -
MATCH.ENTRIES -
MATCH.SHOTS -
MATCH.STOPPAGES -
MATCH.ROTATIONS -
Talent Standard masking: for leagues where your account holds Talent Standard access, location (XY) and pressure columns are returned as
NULL. All other columns are visible.
| New Table | Columns returned as NULL under Talent Standard |
|---|---|
MATCH.CHAINS | All chain start and end location columns, covering X/Y, standardised and rotated values (16 columns) |
MATCH.ENTRIES | All KICK_LAUNCH_LOCATION_* and KICK_RESULT_LOCATION_* columns, KICK_PRESSURE_NAME, KICK_PRESSURE_CODE, KICK_PRESSURE_POINTS |
MATCH.SHOTS | All LOCATION_* columns, PRESSURE_NAME, PRESSURE_CODE, PRESSURE_POINTS |
MATCH.STOPPAGES | All LOCATION_* and STOPPAGE_EXIT_LOCATION_* columns, STOPPAGE_EXIT_PRESSURE |
MATCH.ROTATIONS | None. This table has no location or pressure columns |
MATCH.CHAINS also includes a LEAGUE_ID column, so you can filter chains by league directly.
The location columns in MATCH.STOPPAGES have changed type from DECIMAL(4,1) to DECIMAL(18,6). The values are unchanged, but they now display with more decimal places.
AFL Warehouse - Ladder Updates
New columns in FIXTURES.LADDER
Two new columns have been added to FIXTURES.LADDER:
| Column | Details |
|---|---|
| MATCHES_WIN_PCT | Percentage of matches won. Placed after MATCHES_DRAWN |
| SCORES_AGAINSTAVERAGE | Average score conceded per match. Placed after SCORE_AGAINST |
Both are DECIMAL(10,2). If your queries select columns by position rather than by name, update them for the new column order.
Ladder for every round
FIXTURES.LADDER now holds the ladder after every round of a season, not just the latest round. For example, AFL 2026 has a row for each club for each round from Opening Round (round 0) to round 24, so you can track how the ladder moved across the season.
